News On the Olds and News!
Yaay! I'm very happy to hear that some of my favourite TV shows have been renewed for a new season in the US! Whoo-hoo! Well, first off, as some of you might know, I am a big fan of sitcoms - so it shouldn't come as a surprise that many of these shows are comedies. Some of them are ancient (hahahaha...meaning they've been on air for a while now!), while the others are new. But the point is, they've been renewed, and I'll be getting to watch 'em for at least one more year! Whoo-hooo! Cartwheels! Click on some of the images for links to official sites and stuff, k? :))))
Will & Grace - one of my faves: the story of the relationship between two soul mates who are perfect for each other...except that she's straight, and he's not. Even more hilarious are Will (Eric McCormack)'s flamboyantly queer friend Jack (Sean Hayes), and his boozy, constantly-drugged-up sidekick 'n' Grace (Debra Messing)'s work assistant, Karen (Megan Mullaly). Then, of course, there's the deadpan stylings of Karen's bespectacled Salvadorian maid Rosario (Shelley Morrison), who, just by uttering one line, can drive you into peals of hilarity. Favourite quote - Will: I'm thirsty. Grace: I'm hungry. Karen: I could hump a tree. Sheer randomness! Y'gotta loves it! Commencing its 8TH SEASON soon!

Alright, call me a flake, but I like this show a lot, and not just because of the three leads. It's because it's sheer mindless supernatural entertainment, and if there are four things in the world I enjoy, it's sheerness, mindlessness, supernaturalism and entertainment! Charmed, commencing its 8TH SEASON soon, has picked up since its insipid descent into fairytales and folklore in seasons 5 and 6, and with a new devious demon after them and attacking them humanistically, it's never been more exciting. Long live the vanquishing!
Matt Le Blanc's much-anticipated and highly-dissed spin-off to Friends has been renewed for a 2ND SEASON, mostly out of what I imagine would be a face-saving step for the network NBC. Still, despite its occasional moments of non-funniness, it's always nice to see Joey on the telly, and there have been some crazy laugh-out-loud moment (like when Joey recites King Lear during the cowboy musical? Classic!) The show does have lots of potential, which hopefully it'll expound on in this forthcoming series, and I'm pleased it's coming back, if only to see more of the totally loony Jennifer Coolidge (of the American Pie trilogy and Legally Blonde fame) and the adorable Andrea Anders , who plays Joey's neighbour Alex. I smell romance!

Everybody's favourite lady with the Golden Tonsils is back in a brand new TV sitcom. Fran Drescher is now Fran Reeves (when she used to be Fran Fine), an interior decorator with a 21-year-old son Josh and an annoying 15-year-old daughter Alison -- as well as a 25-year-old live-in boyfriend. Originally entitled Shacking Up (which, if you ask me, should have remained the title, ahahahaha!), Living with Fran is a show with much potential even though its first season eppies weren't exactly The Nanny. Still, I'm happy the network is giving it a chance for a 2ND SEASON! Pity about the chick playing Alison, though. Now that girl has an annoying voice. Which is ironic, seeing who her co-star is. Heh. Oh well. Check it out! Ms Drescher is still hot in her forties, and the dude she's living with (Ryan McPartlin) will satisfy the ladies and the Wills and Jacks out there. (right, Judi?) ;) ))
Now, this is a sitcom I imagine is misunderstood by many people: the story of a rich, successful and good-lookin' celebrity publicist who can't seem to get on in his love and social life despite the odds. Former Full House dude John Stamos is the title character in Jake in Progress, who goes from episode to episode trying to satisfy his sexual and emotional needs with a multitude of beautiful women, only to end up alone each time. Adding to his efforts (or stress) is Patrick, a weird escape artist-wannabe who only seems to make life more chaotic for Jake; Naomi, his bitchy boss at the firm (the hugely talented Wendie Malick of Just Shoot Me! and The Emperor's New Groove fame!), and Adrian, Jake's down-to-earth, livin'-in-the-burbs best buddy who always seems to bring Jake back down to reality when he's got his head too high in the clouds. Judi and I really like this show...and the main reason is because it's funny, fresh, and totally strange. We spent the first three eppies trying to figure out what this series was all about, and by the time we figured out the premise, we were hooked. Back for its 2ND SEASON, baby! And nobody thought it would, since it was so misunderstood! Go Jake!!
Whoo-hoo, I'm very happy they've renewed Stacked, a new workplace ensemble sitcom starring the very likeable and very buxomy Pamela Anderson as Skyler Davis, a blond bombshell who, trying to change from a life of sex, drugs 'n' rock'n'roll, takes on a job at a small, charming family-owned bookstore called Stacked. Brothers Gavin and Stuart Miller take her in as an employee, and while Stuart is mad about the girl, Gavin isn't so sure hiring a sales assistant in a micromini-skirt and size E braless midriffs was exactly such a bright idea. Adding to the team is the down-on-her-luck coffee-maker Katrina, who's always whingeing loveably about how miserable her life is, and the eccentric, stoic and brilliant regular-customer Harold, played marvellously by Back to the Future's Christopher Lloyd. Charming, occasionally crass, clever and witty, this show definitely deserves its 2ND SEASON! Best quote - Gavin: "Come on, a girl like her should be serving in bars! But this place isn't called Hooters, it's called Stacked!!"
And finally, a bit of sad news. Sadly, they can't all be winners... a promising sitcom that I was growing very fond of, Committed, has unfortunately been canned.
Well, thus concludes my review on forthcoming Nick favourites! Other shows also renewed are such as The Gilmore Girls, Alias, Lost, Desperate Housewives, That 70s Show (surprisingly, given that its lead star Ashton Kutcher and Topher Grace have quit!), Smallville and Las Vegas. So fan of these series, rejoice! One more year, guaranteed! Cartwheels, dances of joy and much affection, Nick. :) xxox
